There’s a fine line between panic and calm. Almost like being in the eye of the storm. Things may be chaotic and swirling all around you, but it’s okay. Because it is, what it is. Now, don’t read this as a defeatist sentiment because it isn’t. It’s actually coming from a position of power. “Do not be tense, just be ready, not thinking but not dreaming, not being set but being flexible. It is being “wholly” and quietly alive, aware and alert, ready for whatever may come.” – Bruce Lee
The Happy Medium
As Bruce Lee so aptly detailed, there is the happy medium. The moment, feeling and place inside each of us where we feel the power of tension while relaxed. A state of readiness. Just as we must know darkness to see the light, we must also understand the importance of pressure to feel relieved. And this is exactly where I am. Almost. Sort of. Well, I’m getting there. You see, I’m still kinda in that panic mode. I made an Instagram post the other day saying that there were four weeks till Marburger Farm. There’s actually three. Two if you take
into account the fact that packing, loading the truck, driving to Texas and setting up my booth happens well before opening day. And don’t even get me started about the Chelsea on Green opening night party coming just three days after the close of Marburger. I’ll need to drive from Texas to North Carolina, set up my booth and look presentable in under three days. And so with that post, I clearly gave myself an extra week online because I either felt I needed it or perhaps I felt I already had it. You see even though I’m in panic mode, I’m on my way to the happy medium. Where yes, I feel the pressure of these two shows. I feel the logistical juggling that needs to be balanced oh so perfectly with factors far, far from my control. And I feel other pressures as well. But those are also far, far from my control. And this distance is precisely the space I need to find the calm. The peace. The power. Because it is, what it is. So, I’m still shopping for both shows. Still getting artwork framed and furniture ready. Still preparing. I’m walking that fine line being careful to tread lightly but firmly to stay on course. As a team of one it’s all on my shoulders to produce. So my posture must be strong and fluid. Ready to pick up way too many heavy things while moving deftly and efficiently. Ready for whatever may come. And I am ready. ❤️ hkv
