Many years ago when we lived in New York City, my daughters and I had a Thanksgiving party. We invited friends and neighbors to celebrate. The weather cooperated and we cooked most of our meal outside on our grill (yes, our apartment had an outdoor patio and a fireplace). We had the fireplace going for warmth and s’mores. We had The Princess Bride movie playing on our television inside. Our place was full of laughter, love and great stories. We all came together and shared what we were thankful for… then the firemen showed up.
I’m Thankful For…
Moments. Each and every moment. Because it’s from those moments that the great stories are written. And the funny thing is that I used to think the moments that made the best stories had to be the major events, the big trips, the over the top parties. But the truly great stories are written from the moments that are the small ones. Those little experiences that bring a smile to our faces as we retell the stories even years after. And that’s really what I’m thankful for because my daughters and I are still making and enjoying those moments and writing those stories. And I’m making new moments with my boyfriend. Moments that will become the great stories for our future. Wishing each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving. ❤️ hkv
And About Those Firemen
So New York City living is packed. And what I mean is Manhattan is an island. So every square foot, square inch even, has to be maxed out. Our little courtyard had the grill, a table and four chairs and that fireplace. Being on the first floor has its benefits. But that also means that all of my neighbors live above me. And to either side of me. And with the wafting smoke from both the grill and the fireplace, well let’s just say that some of my neighbors did not appreciate not being invited to our Thanksgiving party. That’s when the NYC Fire Department showed up. Seems our local firehouse received a call and they responded to our apartment in full force. Through the front door as well as the alleyway on the side of our building that led to our little patio. Lucky for us, there was no emergency. Needless to say, we shared our food with the firemen and all had a good laugh. My daughters even tried on a couple of their helmets. We sent them on their way with a few s’mores too and we all have a great story to share.
